Zinsser Watertite Etch & Cleaner is a multi-purpose masonry cleaner and etcher. It is designed to clean, etch and neutralize surfaces prior to painting or other finishing processes. It can be used on a variety of surfaces including brick, concrete, stone, terra cotta, and stucco. It is non-flammable and contains no acids, caustics, or petroleum distillates. The etching process removes dirt, chalk, salts, lime deposits and other debris from masonry surfaces.
Once the surface has been cleaned, the etching process creates a texture that helps promote better adhesion of paint. The cleaner also neutralizes the surface pH, which helps to protect the surface from corrosion. The product is easy to use and can be applied with a brush, roller or sprayer.
