An impact wrench, also referred to as an impactor, impact gun, air wrench, air gun, rattle gun, torque gun, or windy gun, is a type of socket wrench power tool that uses a rotating mass to store energy before abruptly releasing it into the output shaft to produce high torque output with little user effort.
The most typical power source is compressed air, although other options include electric, hydraulic, and cordless electric devices, which have grown in popularity since the middle of the 2000s.
In many different industries, such as automotive repair, heavy equipment maintenance, product assembly, large building projects, and any other situation where a high torque output is required, impact wrenches are frequently utilised. A pulse tool is frequently used for product assembly since it has reactionless tightening and lower noise levels than regular impacts.
The kinetic energy from the hammer is transferred into the anvil using oil in pulse tools. As a result, the impulse is smoother, the torque to weight ratio is slightly lower, and it is possible to construct a shut-off mechanism that will turn the tool off when the proper torque is reached.
Because of the differences in performance and technology, pulse tools are not referred to as "impact wrenches."
